The jewel that dominated the Game Boy Color decade sets out to win back our hearts! Worse than a toxic ex... 😩😂

The choker through history
Will you believe me if I tell you that the earliest evidence of choker necklaces dates back to the world's earliest civilizations. They can be found in Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt. Worn close to the body, they were thought to have protective powers!
Closer to home, the most famous choker in Western history is undoubtedly that of Anne Boleyn, the infamous wife of Henry VIII.
Thinking she was unfaithful, King Henry VIII had her beheaded... Charming Sir...
Unfortunately, the protective power of choker necklaces didn't work out too well for Anne Boleyn, to say the least 😅
In France, the choker was first used in 1789 during the French Revolution. Victims' balls" were organized, at which women wore red ribbons around their necks in tribute to their guillotined loved ones... Nice atmosphere...
A little later, the choker became the symbol of prostitutes. They wore a simple black ribbon around their necks, as seen in Manet's famous painting "Olympia".

Eventually, the choker came into its own with royalty thanks to Alexandra, Princess of Wales .
To hide a scar, Alexandra accumulated necklaces around her neck. In pearl, velvet or diamond, the wife of King Edward VII launched a fashion inspired by the jewelry worn by Indian women.
There would be so many more stories to tell about the place of the choker in different periods of history that I wouldn't have enough for just one article! So let's take a leap forward in time and go straight to the decade we're interested in (and the best one, if you ask me 😁).
The choker necklace: the madeleine de Proust of the nineties
As we said above, the choker necklace is undoubtedly one of the key pieces of the 90s. From Britney Spears to Aaliyah to Vanessa Paradis, all the stars wore them!
Actresses also wear choker necklaces in iconic films and roles, such as Natalie Portman in the cult film Léon, who wears her choker necklace from start to finish!

The choker was everywhere!
But there was one in particular that was all the rage back then, and if you grew up in the 90s-2000s, you couldn't have missed it. I'm even sure it was one of your favorite accessories! Yes, remember, the famous choker tattoo... The classic black, the colorful or the beaded, we all wore them!

See our version of the tattoo choker in 18-carat gold plating 🥺
While some '90s trends failed to make a comeback (and thankfully so 😅 ), that's not the case for the choker necklace! It has stood the test of time to (re)become the darling of all our stars. And the least we can say is that the choker necklace is now being revisited in all sorts of ways... With rhinestones, lace, silver or gold, there's something for every taste and color! Even luxury brands have their iconic choker necklaces! I'm thinking in particular of the Dior choker!
Nevertheless, there's no denying that the choker tattoo has a special place in our hearts.
Every time we think we've left it in the past, it manages to sneak back into our jewelry boxes!
It's truly a '90smust-have! It makes you wonder if it hasn't become a basic that never really goes out of fashion...
In the Who We Are team, we all grew up in those years, so we might as well tell you that this choker necklace makes us a little nostalgic... Don't worry, we're not going to get into the "c'était mieux avant" rhetoric, but those were the good old days, we're not going to lie! That's why we've decided to release our version 2.0 of the tattoo choker.. .
For obvious reasons of environmental protection, we weren't going to bring out a plastic choker... I think you'll agree, there's enough plastic on earth as it is, we're not going to add to it!
That's why we wanted to revisit this must-have choker necklace from the '90s, but in a Who We Are version that's durable, high-quality and gold-plated, please!
The pattern on this choker makes this piece vintage, but the material gives it the modernity it deserves! I don't know about you, but we in the team are the big crush 😍
